Well, I did my top six guitarists list, so now I am going with vocalists. Again, in no particular order:
Eddie Vedder – Lead singer for Pearl Jam. Powerful and passionate and distinctive – can’t say much more than that. Charismatic, too.
“Gentleman” Jim Reeves - If you aren’t at least in your 30′s or 40′s, you may have to look this one up. Jim Reeves was an exquisite baritone in country music. He never really pushed his vocal range, and didn’t need to – he was awesome in his own little pocket.
Ronnie James Dio – One of the greatest singers in the genre of heavy metal music. Everything about him represented the heavy metal world – and he was as kind and respectful as anyone in the business. Sadly, cancer took him.
Elvis Presley – Let’s face it – this dude could sing anything. And in the process, could cause spontaneous orgasms in his female listeners, from a distance. That’s powerful.
Roger Whittaker – Another one you may have to look up if you are younger than say, 40. Another magnificent, smooth baritone, who sang one of my favorite songs – The Last farewell.
Luciano Pavarotti - Amazing – plain and simple. Other opera tenors could sing in his range, but NOT ONE of them could match his rich tone. It was exquisite, and will stand the test of time against ANYONE.
There is my six – for tonight, anyway. And there is an up-and-comer – Destini Beard. She is young, and gifted, and will no doubt get better and better. Keep your eyes open to this young talent.
As an addendum, I cannot leave out Bono, of U2. He is passion personified, and the music of U2, especially the Joshua Tree album, practically saved my life,.
Many Blessings To All…
